STOP PRESS: Kissing Gate has been rated by TripAdvisor as one of the top 14 in the world. Check the link here.  Ruby and Pearl, our gorgeous 1960s lovingly restored caravans have hosted our first guests since we opened Feb 2016.  Combined with a luxury kitchen/bathroom/dining room 1800s settler-themed cottage, glamping here at Kissing Gate celebrates a flavoursome twist of originality and creatively that we're famous for at The Gates Accommodation. As a beautifully treed and landscaped glamping glade with an outdoors bath on a deck above a frog-filled pond, guests LOVE the relaxation and arty, quirky design. Check Kissing Gate out on the national glamping site Canopy Camping.

Whether you are a couple seeking a romantic get-away, friends cycling our Great Taste Trail, tourists after a different yet classy stay, or you are part of an extended family staying at The Gates Accommodation for a wedding or family reunion, Kissing Gate takes the cake.

Named after Adele’s twin great aunts, Ruby and Pearl are classic '60s retro caravans . Pearl, the blue and white one (go figure!), is a true gem - and winner of the 2013 Beach Hop retro caravan competition. She’s your’1960’s ‘Milk-Bar’ styled, Kiwiana-themed lounge a 1967 Jackson. Ruby, larger and seriously sumptuous, is true to her name – cream with a dash of fawn, she’s all glitz and glamour. She’s your luxury bedroom, complete with queen-size, super quality bed - a 1964 Classic. Both girls are very photogenic – you’ll need an extra SD card for all the photos you’ll take.

To also turn your head, there’s a small decked area with a bar and bar stools to sit and relax and look over the glamping glade; there’s the original porcelain, claw-foot bath set outside on a roomy deck over a flax-rimmed pond; and there’s also the luxury bathroom (with shower) and separate gorgeously glamorous toilet, housing a clean and classy Kakapo pong-free composting loo.

To top it off Kissing Gate boasts a sheltered , cooking cottage with dining area and you can hand-feed the sheep over the fence, if they’re around.  Lounge in the loungers or Cape Cod chairs facing the fields and pond. Spot the frogs in the pond (and the kingfisher trying to catch them).

All this makes for the most amazing kiwi glamorous camping adventure that you could ever wish for, and all just 3 km away from the stunning sea-side village of Mapua.

Come and walk through the blue shabby-chic traditional kissing gate and experience life as you’ve never know it before. Adele has poured her designer genius into making this a truly unique stay for you.

PS – Kissing Gates are so called because in the old days in rural England, when young couples in love wandered the countryside, the man would go through the gate, and not let the woman go through the gate until she kissed him! So – all you couples who come glamping at Kissing Gate – remember to carry on the tradition and kiss at the gate as you go through to the glade.
